Good morning Rabbit Fam!
I’ve been deep in Fall Vibes land which means coffee at all times, pulling out the fall mixtapes and playlists, open windows, and, most importantly, pretending the 86 degree heat isn’t real.
I’ve got quite the list of rabbit holes for you this month, but first, I’ve gotta call a quick rabbit family meeting to go over some changes.
Cha-cha-changes
I’ve spent the last few months prepping building processes and systems for 2026. Because of that, I’ve got some quick newsletter updates.
First up! I’m going to be segmenting my newsletter contacts to help me better get the right stuff to the right people. Don’t panic! Rabbit Hole is staying! But I have no way of knowing who wants to receive what kind of updates from me, so, from now until the end of the year, I’m going to be reaching out to you all and asking if you want to receive book or music-specific updates. Be prepared. If you wanna get ahead of the game, just respond to this email with any preferences
I’m turning my nerdy social media segment, The Creator Lab, into it’s own paid Substack publication. I have to start from square one with it, not a single subscriber, but, this way, those of you who’ve signed up for Rabbit Hole won’t get nerdy stuff about algorithms that they don’t give two rabbit hairs about. If learning about how I’ve grown my overall social media reach from 2.3k —> 30k and increased my monthly listeners on Spotify from 0 to 9k, then signup! If you wanna watch me grow in real time, make all the mistakes, and share the playbooks, frameworks, and ideas that I’ve learned, here’s where you can sign up. FYI, this one IS paid.
Okay! Now, without further hubub, it’s time for THE RABBIT HOLES
This month’s rabbit holes 🐰🕳️
1. Gobsmacked! Supernatural sightings after a flood | Read📚
I’m a sucker for modern mythic monsters from folklore and Oxford American DELIVERS. It’s southern-fried, deep-in-the-holler non-fiction about a bunch of “goblin” sightings after the the floods in Kentucky. It reads like you’re sitting at the diner down next to dollar general.
Like people in any rural place, Eastern Kentuckians have their fair share of hatchets yet to be buried. Many of us have long histories with one another, and there are people who won’t even make eye contact while sitting in the same room. Long-held personal and political divides linger. But during those flood days, all grudges and feuds seemed to be put on hold to serve a higher purpose.
And then the goblins came.
2. How to slice a pie, Ellen Wallace | Read📚
I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned it here, but one of my favorite books is The Supper of The Lamb by Robert Fararr Capon. He combines theology and food and it is delicious for the mind.
I ran across this essay, How To Slice A Pie by Ellen Wallace and immediately felt Supper of the Lamb vibes. Hooked in the first sentence.
I mean just peep this…
3. High quality AI alphabet poster for your kid’s room
Gonna take out the yatox tomorrow. Hope I don’t see any water vases.
4. Double chickadee, all the way
The comments are just as priceless.
5. Hades 2 and the New Testament | Video game
This is a bit of a cheat because you can’t just check it out off hand, but I need to give a shoutout to Supergiant Games and their new video game Hades 2. The greek myth story, the music, the game play, it’s all so so so much fun.
One thing I can leave you with is about the main character, Melinoë. I’d never heard of her in my time in greek mythology, is first referenced in what are called the Orphic Hymns, a collection of hymns addressed to greek gods in second or third century AD.
If you’re a bible nerd, that’s when the earliest copies of the New Testament start to appear. It’s an interesting look at what beliefs the early church was dealing with. They’ve got people writing hymns to greek gods and we’re over here starting new whole ass churches because we get in fights over if there should be drums in a worship service.
Also, the soundtrack is really good. If you need some workout music. Check it.
6. My folky cover of Ooh-De-Lally | Listen 👂
As of this morning at 12 AM, my next single, a folky cover of Ooh-de-Lally is out and yours. I’ve got no pontifications on this one. I’ve always loved this song and when I was in my cover era, it was at the top of my list. There wasn’t a ton you could, nay, should, do to it, but I made it a little more stomp-and-holler.
I THINK this might be my last release of 2025. I’m going to take the rest of the year to get ready for the releases I have planned for 2026 and focus on getting a few other things up and running.
I love it if you listened to Ooh-de-lally on Spotify. Play it at volume 11 when you’re on your apple orchard tractor rides. Save it to your “Nostalgic fox music fall” playlists. Use it as a sound in your reels and TikToks. Share it and all that other stuff people ask you to do all the time. My biggest encouragement is hearing what y’all liked about it, but, if nothing else, just call your Mom and tell her I came out with a new song because you probably need to call her anyway.
Stay curious,
Dave Connis
