Hey Rabbit Fam,
As always, it’s been a minute. I had a pretty intense bout of burnout coming into the year…again. Until now, I couldn’t find the energy to do any extra things outside of work, parent four tiny humans, be a good husband, and indulge the foodie soul that’s been blooming in me over the last year. My most recent food side quest was making my wife Bacon jam and crispy sweet onion burgers on brioche buns, and then cinnamon roll focaccia bread for breakfast and dinner Mother’s Day).
However, I’m still releasing the music catalog I recorded from 2011 - 2018 and never shared. I’ve been slowly dripping songs off an album I’m re-releasing called “Hurts & Joys”.
So far I’ve released…
Wildfire
A quiet love song that starts with a spark and ends with “forever.”
Collections
A song about how sometimes, when you create, it feels like shouting into the void and the void says, “Wait, sorry I wasn’t listening, what did you say?”
Fidgeting
This one is a counterpoint to Collections. It’s a story about being the itch of feeling like you’re around the corner from something that you’ve been waiting for. It’s hopeful about creativity, not down.
Half
No write-up for this one because I forgot that I released it until a week later 😅. It’s about how so many people, including myself, carry secrets like backpacks, and we get so used to the weight that it’s like a Stockholm syndrome of sorts.
The rest of the album is coming out this Friday. It’s cover has changed three times since it’s creation. This time, my daughter is on the cover. A joyous bloom of life in the middle of a bunch of gloomy fog. A fantastic representation of hurt and joy if you ask me.
Here is the full track list.
I’d love it if you took some time to listen to it and truly tell me how it hits you. It’s an artist’s dream to have people not just listen, but resonate, experience, heck, at this point, if you can thoughtfully layout why it wasn’t your cup of tea and why it wasn’t what the world needed, I’d love to hear it.
I’ll send out a reminder email on Friday, so expect not one but TWO emails from me because I love disappearing then reappearing and sending too many emails at once that people go “ahhh, too many emails, I’ve gotta unsubscribe.”
See you Friday!
Dave
